Joseph Vernet is a remarkable 18th century French painter whose painting of sea ports, skies, seascapes and working people set a new bar for French painting. His work is the inspiration for our Closing Night film "FRENCH TOUR - Tour de France" with Gérard Depardieu. Come to the films and Reception Friday afternoon and see reproductions of Vernet's French Ports series. After the films, Robert Rex of Deerfield Ranch winery will discuss his philosophy of Rosé and we will sample a taste of his rosé as well as Ashton Vineyards Rosé of Syrah.

A young San woman provides her insights on the fate of her people and the role of education in protecting their future. Rule of Nature depicts the world of a people in tune with nature, but whose nature is being put to the test.

  6. Searching for the Goldspot: The Wild After Wildfire

    This film stresses the importance of fire to the mountain forests and wildlife of the American West. The film follows teams of scientists through the wild, scientists who are at once awed, amazed, and filled with a need to explain the high value of post-fire forests. While searching for rare woodpeckers, the research team also finds a plethora of wildlife: deer, black bears, bobcats, sapsuckers, bluebirds, wrens, raptors, spotted owls, and their offspring, all in the post-fire forests. Travels take viewers across the Californian mountains to the Yosemite, Stanislaus, Lassen, Plumas, El Dorado, Sierra, Tahoe, Inyo, and Sequoia National Forests. The film includes fire-safety tips from scientists who have served as firefighters. Director Maya Khosla will be in attendance at the festival.
