  3. Searching for the Goldspot: The Wild After Wildfire

    Maya Khosla / EcoCinema / 2017 / Environmental, Nature / 30 mins
This film stresses the importance of fire to the mountain forests and wildlife of the American West. The film follows teams of scientists through the wild, scientists who are at once awed, amazed, and filled with a need to explain the high value of post-fire forests. While searching for rare woodpeckers, the research team also finds a plethora of wildlife: deer, black bears, bobcats, sapsuckers, bluebirds, wrens, raptors, spotted owls, and their offspring, all in the post-fire forests. Travels take viewers across the Californian mountains to the Yosemite, Stanislaus, Lassen, Plumas, El Dorado, Sierra, Tahoe, Inyo, and Sequoia National Forests. The film includes fire-safety tips from scientists who have served as firefighters. Director Maya Khosla will be in attendance at the festival.
