Description

The WINE COUNTRY FILM FESTIVAL Closing Night Film is “Tour de France” starring Gérard Depardieu as Serge, a retired stone mason and amateur painter who is determined to retrace the footsteps of the 18th century master Joseph Vernet who painted the Ports of France for Louis XV.  Serge is determined to set up his easel in the same spot as Vernet and paint the Ports of France himself.
He and his driver, Far’Hook, a rapper on the run, make this grand tour together in spite of the great cultural differences they have.
Despite the age gap and culture clash, an unlikely friendship forms between his talented rapper / driver and the stone mason from the north of France. If there ever was an odd couple, it’s definitely Far’Hook and Serge — two stubborn freethinkers who represent opposing views of contemporary France, with the rapping son of immigrants taking on the cheese-eating old racist (and one whose own son converted to Islam).
Far’Hook enlightens Serge to art and meaning of rap, and Serge teaches Far’Hook about painting and Vernet’s masterful skies and seascapes (which incidentally predate the techniques and esthetic of Turner by 100 years). It is a beautiful film which is totally relevant to today’s America as well as France and Europe.

Come enjoy our beautiful venue before the film! Gates open at 6 pm and Rainy Day Chocolate and Catering is serving a menu to compliment our feature –

  • Beef Bourguignon – Channeling Julia Child this classic French dish is rich and full of flavor combining bacon, beef, fresh veggies, and burgundy wine
  • Orecchiette – Slightly bitter rapini marries well with tangy goat cheese in this vegetarian dish

We are excited to offer live music as well. Please come listen to
