Tim Roth stars in Mexico’s submission for the Academy Award directed by Gabriel Ripstein. Arnulfo Rubio smuggles weapons for a deadly Mexican cartel. ATF agent Hank Harris (Roth) attempts to apprehend him, but gets kidnapped by Rubio, instead. Rubio takes him to his bosses, but during the 600-miles-long drive, they slowly befriend one another. 600 Miles is a thriller, a road movie and a relationship drama: a nail biter to the very last frame with superb performances. Winner of Berlin Film Festival Best First Feature Award.

OPENING NIGHT UNDER THE STARS Sideways goes French in this fond and gloriously witty comedy-drama starring Gérard Depardieu as a widowed farmer who’s willing to go to the lengths and breadths of rural France on an impromptu wine tour to bond with his son, the lonely big kid with a heart. “Three unlikely heroes (Gérard DEPARDIEU, Benoit POELVOORDE, Vincent LACOSTE) take to the road in this broad but pleasing picturesque wine tour featuring improbable sex and a kooky cameo from Michel Houellebecq.” Peter Bradshaw-·The Guardian
