An early version of one segment of this film was shown in the 2013 WCFF, which is a fiscal non-profit sponsor of the film. It is now complete and we are proud to include it in the 2016 Festival.
“The Enduring Passion for Ink” consists of ten short films about ten Chinese ink painters living in China, Europe, and the United States. Ranging from 78 to 38 years old, some remain embedded in the circle of Chinese ink connoisseurs while others are famous on the international art circuit, but all face the same choices: Why ink? How is ink’s expressive range distinct from that of other artistic media? How does the artist approach issues such as tradition, creative innovation, and personal expression?
Listening to the artists, watching them paint, and contemplating their finished works of art, it becomes apparent that ink painting, with its long history and profound philosophies, has much to offer to the present day.
