La Prima Neve
Directed by Andrea Segre
Director Andrea Segre, a WCFF alumni with Shun Li And The Poet, says, “First Snowfall is my hymn to life,” and the Venice Film Festival audiences gave it standing ovations.
Shot in the majestic Alpine mountains of Trentino’s Mocheni Valley, the film reveals a healing friendship between Michele, a towheaded kid and Dani, a young refugee from Togo and the Libyan war. Michele, grappling with the loss of his father, befriends Dani, who is mournful over the distance he must maintain from his little daughter in Africa, and the two of them find solace in the restful nature of the Alps and the simple pleasure of craft of carpentry. The natural landscape is breathtakingly captured and is as integral to the film as the central characters – swaying trees and tranquil mountains hold a transcendent beauty, something eternal that will never know death.
