They were known simply as “The Lost Boys,” orphaned by the brutal Civil war in Sudan. These young victims traveled a thousand miles on foot in search of safety. Reese Witherspoon stars alongside Sudanese actors Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany, Emmanuel Jal (a rapper and former child soldier), and newcomer Nyakuoth Weil, many of whom were children of war. Academy Award® winner Witherspoon (Walk the Line) plays a brash American woman assigned to help four young Sudanese refugees who win a lottery to be part of a humanitarian project to relocate to the United States.
Director Philippe Falardeau, (writer and director of the Oscar® nominated Foreign Language film Monsieur Lazhar) brings the story of their survival and triumph to life. Molly Smith (The Blind Side) is a producer, along with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard. In what is tipped to be another Oscar for Reese Witherspoon, this powerful human drama is based on true events.
