Lucy Walker / Documentary, Food On Film, International, Shorts / Japan, USA / 2012 / Agriculture/Viticulture, Art, Buddhism, Cultural, Food, Japan, Philosophy / 24 mins
This film explores an almost 400-year-old Japanese company, the impact it had on a small farming community in Middle America and the art of naturally brewing soy sauce. Founded by a woman in feudal Japan, Kikkoman has been guided by a family creed handed down for 19 generations. Each article of the creed serves as a thematic chapter for this amazing story of shogun warlords, culinary craftsmanship and lifelong friendships.

  4. Slow Food Story

Stefano Sardo / Documentary, Food On Film, International / Italy / 2013 / Biography, Food, Healing/Health, Human Relationships, Wine / 74 mins
The founder of the Slow Food movement is Carlo Petrini who, in 1989, launched it in Paris as an international “resistance” movement against fast food. Today, Slow Food is present in 150 countries and promotes worldwide the use of “good, clean and fair food”. All this started among good friends in Bra, in the Italian province of Piemonte. Slow Food Story tells the tale of a group of friends in the provinces. It’s a story of pranks and political passions, of restaurants and rediscovered peasant rites, of wine and journeys and gambles, some won and some lost but all taken with the same unsinkable, grouchy irony. The film shows how even the most important cultural adventures can be born of a tongue-in-cheek approach to life.
