The Town
Ben Affleck’s crime thriller is the festival opener. The Town screens al fresco under the stars at Deerfield Ranch Winery Wednesday September 15th
Mahler on the Couch
by father and son team Percy and Felix Adlon screens al fresco under the stars September 18th at Deerfield Ranch Winery and repeats at the Cameo Cinema in St. Helena on September 25th.
There will be a retrospective of Adlon’s work including Bagdad Café and Salmon Berries starring KD Lang at 3rd Street Cinemas and a Master Class with Adlon Sat September 18th at Christy’s (Downtown Santa Rosa). Percy will talk about Poetic Realism, his trademark cinema style.
Balibo Conspiracy
by Robert Connolly is the gripping true story about five Australian journalists who were murdered in East Timor. Screens al fresco under the stars at Deerfield Ranch Winery Sunday September 19th preceded by a forum “Censorship and a Free Media” led by Sonoma State University Professor Peter Philipps, the founder of Project Censored. The feature film stars Cuban-American actor Oscar Isaac as Jose Ramos-Horta, and Anthony LaPaglia as the has-been war correspondent Roger East.
The People Speak
by Anthony Arvone about America's struggles with war, class, race and women's rights. Based on Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States, the documentary is produced by Josh Brolin and Matt Damon who along with Danny Glover, Bob Dylan, Marisa Tomei, Morgan Freeman, Pink, Viggo Mortenson and Bruce Springsteen read from letters, diaries and speeches from the repertoire of people who have brought about radical changes in the American social scenario.
The Practice of the Wild
by John J. Healey about legendary Beat poet Gary Snyder with a special poetry reading by Poet Laureate Bob Hass. William Hearst III who is the film’s producer will be at the screening.
The Violin Masters – Two Gentlemen of Cremona
by John Forsen, is a fascinating documentary about the creators of the Stradivari and Guarneri, the greatest violin makers the world has ever known.
Now on to the BIG SHOW. The Film Festival takes place Sept 16 - 26 in Sonoma County and Napa Valley, including "Films al Fresco™" outdoor movies in the vineyards and in the Grand Room at Deerfield Ranch Winery and for the first time the newly equipped 3rd Street Cinemas in Santa Rosa.
Then the roving Festival moves to Napa Valley at the Cameo Cinema in St. Helena, The Rutherford Grange Hall and Round Pond Estate for our outdoor movies.
